In the San Diego Padres’ 9-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves, Yu Darvish dominated the Braves’ offense, not allowing any runs and extending his unbeaten streak to 25 games. Additionally, this marked his 200th career win.
The Japanese pitcher only allowed two hits, struck out nine batters, and issued one walk over the innings he pitched, lowering his ERA to 2.08.
The manager of the San Diego Padres stated the following: “Yu has been extraordinary in his last four outings, there’s nothing closer to perfection.”
Darvish became the third Japanese player to reach 200 wins between MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball, joining names like Hiroki Kuroda (203) and Hideo Nomo (201). Darvish has won his last four starts, with 107 victories in the big leagues and 93 wins in Japan.
With the help of his interpreter, Darvish stated to the press: “Those other two pitchers on the list, we know how good they are. I feel honored to be getting closer to them; it gives me confidence to keep moving forward.”
Atlanta Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna mentioned how challenging it is to face the Japanese pitcher: “Darvish was placing every one of his pitches in the strike zone, and we couldn’t hit the ball.”
The Atlanta Braves and the San Diego Padres will face each other this Monday in a doubleheader to conclude a four-game series.
