Jameson Taillon, a 10-year MLB veteran starting pitcher, is drawing interest from his former teams, the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, with days remaining until the 2024 trade deadline.

Jameson Taillon, a 10-year MLB veteran starting pitcher, is drawing interest from his former teams, the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, with days remaining until the 2024 trade deadline.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the only obstacle is that Taillon’s current team, the Chicago Cubs, has not yet decided whether they will be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. They currently sit at the bottom of the National League Central division but are also just 4.5 games out of the last wild card spot.

The Red Sox and Yankees have had discussions with the Cubs about SP Jameson Taillon, according to @BNightengale.

Both the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees are seeking rotation help. Taillon, who spent two seasons with the Yankees, is familiar with both Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park, albeit as a visiting player.

Jameson Taillon, 32 years old, was acquired by the Yankees from the Pirates before the 2021 season, overcoming cancer and Tommy John surgery in 2020. After two solid seasons in New York with 22 wins, 11 losses, 291 strikeouts, 322 innings pitched, and a 4.08 ERA, the right-hander signed a 4-year, $68 million deal with the Chicago Cubs before the 2023 season.

He struggled in his first season in Chicago but has bounced back in 2024 with a solid 3.10 ERA over 16 starts, posting 7 wins, 4 losses, 93 innings pitched, and 75 strikeouts.

It’s important to note that Taillon’s contract still has two more seasons (2025 and 2026) plus the remainder of the current season. He is owed over $36 million, a figure any acquiring team would need to account for unless they negotiate a deal for the Cubs to cover part of the contract.
