The venezuelan outfielder, David Peralta, has reached a Minor League Deal with the San Diego Padres, according to several reports from the official site of the MLB.
David Peralta signed a Minor League Deal with the Chicago Cubs earlier in the year. Then he was assigned to Triple AAA after being informed that he wasn’t going to be in the roster for the Opening Day.
Nevertheless, the Venezuelan decided to terminate his contract in May in order to look for a team where he has a better chance of returning to the MLB. Finally, after few days in free agency, he joined the Triple AAA from the San Diego Padres.
David Peralta is a three-time golden glove winner in the outfield and he has been eight years in the National League with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks. So he can be a great tool to help the Padres in the outfield.
The offense hasn’t been the strength in Peralta’s career. In the minor league with the Chicago Cubs he had an average at offense of .217/.341/.349 with 10 runs , 15 hits, 3 doubles, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 12 BB, 13 K y 1 stolen base in 20 games.
In his official debut in the San Diego Padres, he began with 2 H and 1 BB in five plate appearances.
At this moment, the San Diego Padres’s outfield is conformed by: José Azocar, Fernando Tatis Jr and Jackson Merill, all with great ability at defense and probably they will not be replaced in a near future but in case of any injury, Peralty will be a great substitute.
