This Monday, Xander Bogaerts of the San Diego Padres left the game due to an injury after attempting to catch a hit by MLB star Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves.
The San Diego Padres secured their 25th victory of the season by defeating the Atlanta Braves 6-5 in the first game of the series. Despite the victory, the story of the game was the loss of their starting second baseman, Xander Bogaerts, in the third inning. Bogaerts attempted to stop a hard hit by Ronald Acuña Jr. by diving and try to catch the ball but he fell on his left shoulder.
The incident occurred in the third inning with the bases loaded. Acuña hit a powerful shot that seemed destined for the outfield and likely to bring in at least two runs. However, the second baseman made a spectacular stretch to stop the ball, managing to hold onto it despite not being able to complete any outs. As he fell to the ground, Bogaerts lay there in pain, passing the ball to his shortstop teammate while showing clear signs of pain. The medical staff and manager immediately rushed out to attend to him, and after a brief examination, they decided it was best for him to leave the game.
The Padres have not yet provided information on the severity of the Aruban’s injury, who left the field in pain.

Xander Bogaerts performance in the season
In his first year as a second baseman, Bogaerts has shown that he is the owner of the position despite the arrival of Luis Arraez. Thanks to Bogaerts’s great performance, Arraez has been playing as the designated hitter.
Despite his great defense, Bogaerts has struggled at offense with a batting average of .219 and: 4 HR, 14 RBI, 23 R and an OPS of .581.
The San Diego Padres continue their chase for the first place in the West Division in the National League with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
