The implementation of the robot umpire system has sparked controversy among baseball fans. However, several players have expressed their support for this tool to make the sport fairer.
The ABS system, or robot umpires, uses technology similar to the Hawk-Eye system used in tennis matches. The goal is to make more accurate calls for balls and strikes. Umpires wear an earpiece where they receive real-time notifications of each call.
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow had his first experience with the ABS system last season during a rehab assignment in the minor leagues. He mentioned that it was a great experience.
Another rule that MLB is looking to implement is the challenge rule, similar to the NFL. Each team will have three challenges per game, and they can retain their challenge if they win it. Whenever a player feels there is a controversial call, they can request a review. However, the rule stipulates that only the players involved in the play at the plate (catcher, pitcher, and batter) can initiate the challenge.

Interesting turn of events here in Sacramento as Marco Luciano got rung up on a called third strike. He called for the ABS challenge, the review was done within 10 seconds, and was called a ball by the slimmest of margins.
