The red lights went up Friday night in the New York Yankees’ dugout after Gleyber Torres had to exit Game 1 against the Boston Red Sox due to what the team labeled as tightness in his right groin.
Gleyber Torres left tonight’s game with right groin tightness. He was examined by a Yankees team physician and there are no plans for imaging at this time.

The incident occurred in the bottom of the fourth inning with the score tied at zero and Aaron Judge and Juan Soto on base for the Bronx Bombers. Torres came up to bat and on a 0-1 count, hit a hard grounder towards shortstop where Ceddanne Rafaela made a diving stop. Rafaela then threw to first base, but Torres had already crossed the bag with a slide. Immediately after reaching first, Torres required medical attention and was taken to the clubhouse.

Following the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated in a press conference that Torres’ physical issue did not appear to be a major concern and did not require imaging.
This isn’t the first time Gleyber Torres has exited a game due to injury this season. On June 20 against the Baltimore Orioles, he also left the field due to right groin tightness. At that time, the Yankees reported he had been examined at the stadium and did not need X-rays.
Before exiting Friday’s game and being replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera, Torres was batting .223 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs. These statistics don’t fully reflect his recent offensive improvement, as he had maintained a .308 average over his last seven games.
The news that Torres may not need to be placed on the injured list is a relief for the Yankees, who have already been without their first baseman Anthony Rizzo since June 16 due to a broken forearm, and their star slugger Giancarlo Stanton since June 22 due to hamstring tightness.
