Following a relatively quiet trade deadline for the Yankees, who acquired only utility player Jazz Chisholm Jr. (Marlins), Enyel de los Santos (Padres), and Mark Leiter Jr. (Cubs), many fans were anticipating a potential call-up for Domínguez. However, that will have to wait.
When asked by Bryan Hoch about the potential call-up, Cashman stated that the team is currently satisfied with the 25 players on their active roster and does not intend to make any changes. He did, however, express confidence in having a talented player like Domínguez in Triple-A, ready to join the big league club if needed due to an injury or other roster move.
“We like what we have right now. It’s good to know we have [Domínguez] if we need him,” Cashman said during a press conference following the 2024 MLB trade deadline.
The 21-year-old Jasson Domínguez, nicknamed “The Martian,” missed a significant portion of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery. He started the 2024 season in Double-A and was later promoted to Triple-A. There was speculation that he might be called up following Giancarlo Stanton’s injury last month, but Domínguez also suffered an injury that sent him to the injured list.
Domínguez was activated from the Triple-A injured list on July 26. Since then, he has recorded three hits, two RBIs, two walks, a stolen base, and four strikeouts.
