Yankees manager Aaron Boone‘s patience with second baseman Gleyber Torres appears to be wearing thin. This was evident last Friday when the Yankees opened their home series against the Toronto Blue Jays, as Venezuelan infielder Oswaldo Cabrera replaced Torres in the bottom of the third inning.
Why Did Boone Pull Gleyber Torres? Here’s the Explanation
In the bottom of the second inning, Venezuelan Gleyber Torres hit a deep fly ball to center field but decided not to run the bases with much intensity, possibly thinking he had hit a home run. However, the ball hit the wall, and Torres only managed to reach first base, missing the opportunity for an extra-base hit.

As if that weren’t enough, the situation worsened in the same inning. Catcher Austin Wells hit a deep ball to left field with Torres on first base. Torres was thrown out at home plate, despite appearing to have a good chance of scoring. His slide was poorly executed, and his base running after rounding third base was also subpar.
Notably, this marks the fifth time Torres has been thrown out at home plate this season, more than any other player in 2024.

After the inning ended, Torres took the field to play second base in the top of the third inning. However, despite the expectation that Torres would likely get another at-bat, he was substituted by his fellow countryman and utility player, Oswaldo Cabrera.
