San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin was unexpectedly ejected just minutes before Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
While details of the ejection haven’t been disclosed, Melvin appeared to be arguing with the umpiring crew on the field while handing over his lineup card before the game. Melvin seemed visibly upset and heated during the discussion, with bench coach Ryan Christenson accompanying him to the meeting.

All fans know so far is that Melvin did not take his place in the manager’s chair once the game began. However, this didn’t hinder the San Francisco Giants from securing a 3-3 victory, keeping them in fourth place in the National League East division with a record of 48-53, and closing in within 3.5 games of the last wild card spot.
The ejection marks Bob Melvin‘s fourth of the season and the 63rd of his career, placing him 16th on the all-time list of managers ejected most frequently. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time an ejection has occurred before a game; Giants pitching coach Bryan Price was ejected by Jim Reynolds during a lineup card exchange on May 23, 2015, when he managed the Reds, protesting calls from the previous day’s game.
