The Japanese pitcher Yuki Matui recently signed a four-year agreement worth 28 million dollars with the San Diego Padres, marking his first move from the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) to Major League Baseball (MLB) in his career.
What will be his role? According to A.J. Preller, the general manager of the San Diego Padres and the person responsible for signing Yuki Matui, the Japanese player is expected to take on the role of closer if everything goes well during the Spring Training in 2024.
Learn more about Yuki Matui… The left-handed pitcher hails from Yokohama, Japan, stands at 5’8″ and weighs 165 pounds. With ten years of experience as a pitcher with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), he has a lifetime record of 29-47, with a 2.43 ERA, 704 innings pitched, 311 walks, and 941 strikeouts in 517 appearances.

Is he related to former player Hideki Matsui? Although they share the same surname, there is no confirmed family or common origin between them. However, Yuki Matui has admitted to being a devoted fan of Hideki Matsui during his time in Major League Baseball.
