Josh Hader is considered one of the best closers in the league, and for many, the absolute best. That’s why the pitcher is seeking a multimillion-dollar contract that reflects his performance on the diamond.
Edwin Díaz signed a $102 million, 5-year contract with the New York Mets—a deal that Hader aims to surpass.
Last season, Hader boasted a 1.28 ERA with 85 strikeouts, 30 walks, and a 1.01 WHIP. Experts suggest that Hader is on track to become the highest-paid closer in history, and that’s his intention according to reporter Jim Bowden.

So far, the team most linked to him is the New York Yankees. However, the Yankees’ offer of $85 million over 5 years falls short of Edwin Díaz’s deal. Therefore, Hader is open to considering other offers.
If the Yankees want Hader on their roster, they’ll have to exceed the $102 million mark for a 5-year contract.
The Texas Rangers and the Philadelphia Phillies are among the other teams interested in acquiring his services.
