The shortstop for the Tampa Bay Rays, Wander Franco, has been detained at the Comprehensive Care Unit for Victims of Gender Violence in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. He is accused of having sexual relations with a minor.
It’s worth noting that the mother of the minor who accused Wander Franco has also been detained. It is believed that next Wednesday, the judge in charge will request a preventive detention for the baseball player as well as for the mother.
As expected, Wander Franco, accompanied by his lawyers, appeared at the Comprehensive Care Unit for Victims of Gender Violence in Puerto Plata after being absent in Santo Domingo. At that time, the lawyers who had been representing Franco claimed they had been dismissed and, therefore, were unable to attend
Franco will not be released at this time, but he will likely be sent to a prison in the Dominican Republic soon. Authorities have refused to comment on the case because it involves a minor. It’s important to note that the legal age of consent in the Dominican Republic is 18 years old.
Now we just have to wait the decision of the judges in Wander Franco’s case in order to see if he will return to his baseball career of he will pass the next years in prison.
