The Colorado Rockies are gearing up to welcome back Germán Márquez, who will return to the mound after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Manager Bud Black confirmed that the right-hander will be activated from the 60-day injured list and is scheduled to start the next game against the New York Mets.
Márquez, 29 years old, was limited to just four starts in the 2023 season before his injury required surgery in May.
Despite the setback, Márquez and the Rockies agreed to a two-year, $20 million contract extension last September, allowing the pitcher to complete his rehabilitation with the team and prepare for an early return in the 2024 season.
Márquez’s comeback is a relief for the Rockies, who have struggled to maintain an effective rotation in his absence. Since his debut in 2016, Márquez has been a cornerstone for Colorado, amassing 65 wins and 983 strikeouts over 1016 innings pitched.
His ability to perform well at the challenging Coors Field makes him a valuable asset for the team.
Expectations are high for Márquez’s return against the Mets, with the team anticipating him to throw between 75 to 90 pitches. The organization and fans alike are eager to see him back in action and perform after his lengthy rehabilitation.

Márquez has shown incredible determination during his recovery and is poised to prove that he can still be one of the league’s top pitchers.
As the Rockies’ leader in wins and strikeouts since his debut, he has consistently proven himself as a reliable and effective pitcher.
His return not only strengthens the Rockies’ rotation but also provides an opportunity for the team to assess its future heading towards the trade deadline.
With his comeback, Márquez has the chance to reaffirm his value and help the Rockies finish the season strongly. His determination and skill serve as inspiration for the team and fans, who will all be closely watching his return to the mound.
