The Houston Astros right-handed pitcher Jose Urquidy, who was in a career-threatening situation after being pulled off his rehab start, finally has a final diagnosis. Sources tell ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez and Jeff Passan that Urquidy is visiting Dr. Keith Meister and may need a second Tommy John surgery.
The possibility for a second Tommy John surgery is a significant blow to both Urquidy and the Houston Astros. This surgery, known for its lengthy recovery time, could keep him off the field for more than a year.

Jose Urquidy hasn’t thrown in MLB yet this season. The cause of his absence is an injury he suffered during Spring Training. Despite having two rehab starts in Triple A, he was forced to exit the game early in his third start.
Last season, Urquidy just threw 63 innings in 10 starts because of injuries. Throughout his career in MLB, the pitcher has mantained an ERA of 3.98, 1.14 WHIP and an average of 7.2 K per each nine innings. He was a key player when the Astros won the World Series in 2022.
