The situation reached a breaking point when the White Sox suffered 20 consecutive losses, making them only the sixth team in MLB history to hit such a low in a single season.
With a dismal 2024 record of 27-87, the team was on track to surpass even their disastrous 101-loss season in 2023, potentially setting a new negative benchmark for the organization.

Grifol’s dismissal has reignited speculation about a possible return of Ozzie Guillén, who led the White Sox to their last World Series title in 2005. Guillén, the first Venezuelan manager to win a World Series, expressed his frustration and disappointment with the current state of the team during an appearance on NBC Sports.

“Ozzie Guillén didn’t hesitate to share his discomfort about the situation with his former team, commenting that, although Pedro Grifol isn’t a bad manager, the decision to choose him over Guillén now seems questionable.
‘Pedro isn’t a bad manager, but they chose him over me. Now he’s 100 wins under .500 in his career. I really feel bad and embarrassed,’ said Guillén.”
Guillén also hinted that the White Sox’s struggles have taken a toll on his personal life, joking about needing therapy due to the stress and frustration of watching his team spiral into a losing streak.

With Grifol out, rumors of a potential return of Ozzie Guillén to the White Sox have gained momentum. Guillén, who posted a 678-617 record during his tenure as the team’s manager from 2004 to 2011, is widely respected for his knowledge and experience with the organization.
Under his leadership, the White Sox enjoyed some of their best recent years, including an 11-game winning streak in 2010, the fourth-longest in the franchise’s history.
