Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw not only had a rough outing against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, but he also saw an incredible streak come to an end—a streak he had maintained since his Major League debut.

During Wednesday’s game between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers, Kershaw allowed six hits, seven runs, a walk, and a home run. Most notably, he didn’t record a single strikeout over three and two-thirds innings, throwing a total of 83 pitches.

This marks the first time in his 403 Major League games that Clayton Kershaw has had an outing without a strikeout, ending his historic streak, which was the longest since 1893. The other longest streaks include:

  • Clayton Kershaw: 423 games
  • Tom Seaver: 411 games
  • Nolan Ryan: 382 games

Kershaw commented on his performance, saying,

“I was missing a lot of things. I wasn’t executing, I wasn’t throwing anything where I wanted or how I wanted. It was frustrating overall. Physically, I feel good. Honestly, I felt pretty good about the last pitch overall. But this one, obviously, was really bad. I just need to pitch better. Sometimes it happens. There are a lot of things you can overanalyze when you pitch poorly. But for now, I’ll just say it was bad and try to pitch better next time.”

It’s worth noting that the Padres‘ catcher, Luis Campusano, was Kershaw‘s main nemesis, going 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs, including a home run. Additionally, Kershaw is just 50 strikeouts away from reaching 3,000 in his career, but he made no progress towards that milestone during Wednesday’s outing.
