When it seemed like everything was falling into place for the Bronx Bombers to be serious contenders for the World Series, luck and the ball have not favored the Yankees in recent games. With their loss this Wednesday to the Cincinnati Reds, the New Yorkers have now suffered 12 defeats in their last 16 games.

Over the past few weeks, the Yankees have not shown the same offensive power they had at the beginning of the season. Additionally, the starting rotation and relievers have struggled to control their pitches and find the strike zone.

After allowing 20 runs in his last 13 innings, Carlos Rodón didn’t have a bad performance against the Cincinnati Reds, allowing only three hits in 95 pitches. Unfortunately for the New York pitcher, those hits were enough for the Reds to surpass the Yankees 3-0 due to the ineffectiveness of their offense.

This rough patch for the Yankees began in June when Anthony Rizzo was injured against the Boston Red Sox. Since then, the team has alternated between JD Davis and Ben Rice at first base. However, the lack of offensive production highlights the absence of the former Chicago Cubs first baseman.

The Yankees hope that the All-Star break will help them get back on track and recover some key players like Giancarlo Stanton to boost their offense.
