Joe Kelly’s wife played a significant role in convincing Shohei Ohtani to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers, as she spearheaded a campaign to persuade him to stay in the state of California.
As part of this campaign, in addition to Joe Kelly relinquishing his number to the Japanese player, the wife also changed the name of their baby to ShoKai instead of Kai.
Throughout his two stints with the franchise, Joe Kelly has worn the #17 jersey. However, he will now need to find a new number, as the rising star from the Land of the Rising Sun will be donning that particular jersey number.
